Elvish Archer by HypnoticRose Elvish Archer by HypnoticRose
Just a quick illustration of elvish archer, again I'm disappointed of the effect... I'll try work harder on watercolors - they're awesome for fantasy illustrations :aww:
Watercolors, watercolor pencils, black pen on heavy Rowney paper.
Size A5
About 5/6 hours of work.
I use as a referencence this beautiful stock photo: cathleentarawhiti.deviantart.c…
Constructive critque is always welcome :)

Great composition, and the woman is rendered very well, especially considering this is watercolor which isn't the easiest to render with. Keep up the great work!

Thank you very much! I'm still learning how to use watercolors, they're indeed hard to use. But I think they create lots of great effects and they're pretty fast to use. I'm in love with this medium last times. :)

Beautiful work! I love the changes you made from the reference photo. The red hair and blue dress are stunning together against the background. The paper adds such a great texture to everything and her hands are very well done.

Thank you :aww:  Your words are really motivating :)
Hands were the hardest part ;D I really love those textured papers but they're kinda tricky - it all depends of cottony of them, I have about 4 kinds of watercolor paper and on each one I made other effect :D I'm glad that you liked this color because I wanted to make something with cool tones and it is always hard for me to work with :) I still need to learn how to make some textures and shadows with watercolors  o.O

The face is very lovely also, but I figured I would bring up the hands instead knowing how difficult they are to pull off. A great face is usually the most important thing in a piece to me, but executing the hands correctly is even more impressive.  I'm sure you will have no issues figuring out the textures and shadows with a little more practice:hug:

Thank you so much :glomp: I usually hide hands in my drawings - I'm bit too lazy, and as you may saw I focus on face as well :D I saw your works and they are really beautiful and your hands are really well-done - anatomics, light and shadow, colors - everything is nice ^^ Thank you again for warm words - I will do my best ;)
